She began by observing all my "American" driving habits and clearly explaining the UK expectations and the reasons behind them. "When I first considered learning to drive there were quite a few driving schools/instructors to choose from and my main priority was for the instructor to be a)understanding, b)polite c)encouraging and to have the interests of me passing i.e. not just out to get as the saying goes, a quick buck. "I found Pass with Purdy's online through a Google search and after much deliberation, selected Neil as my instructor. I had heard how difficult it was to pass the driving test, knowing a few friends who had taken it at least 3 times before passing, I was rather nervous about the whole thing. Neil was everything I had imagined him to be from reading some of the reviews, patient and extremely kind. And on the plus side, I very quickly realised how organised he was in the way he conducted lessons. He is strict but in a good way, as it keeps you focused and determined. I took lessons twice a week for about 4 months in total, sat for my first driving test last week and passed with just 4 minor faults. I couldn't have done it without Neil. He is extremely dedicated to his work, cares about his students and he won't waste your time. He is always on time and has an organised method of conducting each lesson. He will have a particular route in mind, major roundabouts and 2 manoeuvres for each lesson. I found this method to be very effective. He is also extremely knowledgeable in terms of what the test examiners look for and will explain these to you during your lessons, after a few lessons he would have drummed in good habits and made you aware of the important things that examiners test you on. If you are determined and willing to work hard, combined with his work ethic, teaching skills and patience (not to mention his wonderful sense of humour!), it won't be too difficult to pass the test first time. He is also very perceptive to your mood which makes the lessons a little easier if you have had a tough day at work. If you take lessons with Neil, I can assure you that you will perfect the manoeuvres in no time and gain confidence by the week. I would swerve to avoid potholes, several local drivers would jump the red light, cars that should have been dumped at a local scrap yard were on the road etc. You get the idea – dangerous driving conditions.
